About Afaque Ahmed

Expatriate Afaque AhmedI left Pakistan for the US to pursue higher education when I was 19 years old.  At that time, a part of me did not want to leave Pakistan, and obviously a part of me was dreaming about learning the ways of the world and truly educate myself.  When the US Visa officer asked me about my plans after education, I simply said I will come back to Pakistan and will most likely join my family business, which I eventually did not, but not knowing that this coming back will take almost 13 years.

I went there for higher education after finishing my high school from Karachi, Pakistan.  It took me almost 2 to 3 years of preparation and research during my high school years to ensure that I got into the best University I could with maximum financial aid and thus be able to pursue my education in the most cost-effective manner.  After completing my BS EE from the University of Texas at Austin, I moved to Montreal, Canada for two years and earned myself an MBA from McGill University.  Then I started my career with Texas Instruments in Houston, Texas, which took me to many parts of the world, and eventually to Bay Area, California in 2000.

I got married (arranged) in 2002 in Karachi, and took my wife to California with me.  She also completed her BBA from The University of California at Berkley in 2005.  In the articles which follow on this website, she has made contributions as well, especially where it relates to the female viewpoints.

I now live in Karachi with my family and run a high technology startup.
